Korea Journal 2009년 여름호가 발간되었다. 이번 호는 1960년대 이후 오늘에 이르기까지 한국의 대외관계에 영향을 미친 국내 및 국제적 요인을 분석한 특집(주제: A Contemporary History of the Korean Peninsula from an International Political Perspective) 논문 4편과 투고 논문 가운데 엄정한 심사를 거쳐 선정된 세 편의 논문, 그리고 한 편의 서평을 실었다.

네 편의 특집 논문 가운데, 먼저 마상윤 교수(가톨릭대)의 논문은 최근 비밀 해제된 사료를 바탕으로 1960년대 한국 국내정책의 기조가 통일에서 경제발전으로 급선회한 데에는 미국의 영향이 지대했다고 주장한다. 우승지 교수(경희대)의 논문은 상대에 대한 위협인식, 체제의 성격 등의 관점에서 데탕트 시기 박정희 정부가 새로운 대북정책을 수립하게 된 과정을 추적한다. 구갑우 교수(북한대학원)의 논문은 분단체제론적 관점에서 1980-1997년 기간 남북관계를 다시 서술한다. 필자는 남북한의 결단과 태도 변화 없이 분단체제 극본은 쉽지 않다는 점을 결론으로 제시한다. 마지막으로 박건영 교수(가톨릭대)는 북한의 우라늄 농축 프로그램의 진실을 추적하면서 미국의 대응실패가 한반도 핵위기를 초래한 주요 원인 중의 하나임을 강조한다.

또한 개별 연구 논문으로는, 이규보의 「문조물」(問造物)을 통해 한국 지성사, 특히 고려-조선 이행기에서 이규보가 차지하는 위상을 고찰한 김영민 교수(서울대)의 논문, 애국적 열정, 과학, 언론의 합작품인 황우성 신드롬의 사회심리학적 기제를 분석한 윤석민 교수 등(서울대)의 논문, 만주에서 창궐한 역병에 초점을 맞춰 조선총독부의 방역대책을 평가한 신규환 교수(연세대)의 논문 등이 수록되어 있다.
