UNITWIN / UNESCO Chairs
The UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Programme is an international network established by UNESCO in 1992 to promote cooperation among higher education and research institutions in its key areas of action, including education, science, culture, and information and communication. The UNITWIN networks focus on fostering interdisciplinary research and education through collaboration among multiple higher education institutions. In contrast, UNESCO Chairs are specialized programs in which individual universities or research institutes contribute independently to research, education, and policy development on specific themes or issues. Currently, there are 45 UNITWIN networks (including 4 in Korea) and over 1,000 UNESCO Chairs (including 5 in Korea) actively operating in 125 countries worldwide.
