Korea National Open University (joined in 2017)
Korea National Open University, the Republic of Korea’s only national institution specialising in distance higher education, has undertaken various international cooperation initiatives targeting developing countries in Asia since being designated as a UNITWIN host. Between 2019 and 2024, the university partnered with six institutions in Nepal, Vietnam, Mongolia, and Malaysia to strengthen their distance education systems. Tailored support included digital literacy education, content production training, and micro-studio installations, thereby enhancing institutional teaching capabilities. Over the past three years, 25 professional trainers have educated a total of 610 local trainees. The university continues to improve access to and the quality of higher education through expanded content, improved learning environments, and capacity-building programmes for both educators and students. Beyond 2025, it plans to deepen partnerships with four core institutions in Nepal and Vietnam and establish new collaborations.
