Chairperson

The Chairperson of the Korean National Commission for UNESCO is appointed ex officio, in accordance with the Act on UNESCO Activities. The Chairperson also serves as the President of the General Assembly and Chair of the Executive Board.

Term

The Chairperson holds the position during their tenure as the Minister of Education.

Duties

The Chairperson oversees the overall operations of the Korean National Commission for UNESCO and represents the Commission. Key duties include:

  • Convening the General Assembly, Executive Board, Subcommittees, and Specialized Committees.
  • Appointing the Secretary-General upon the recommendation of the Executive Board.

Vice-Chairpersons

In accordance with the Act on UNESCO Activities, the Vice-Chairpersons consist of 5 members:

The Vice-Chairpersons also serve as Vice-Chairs of the Executive Board.

Term

Ex officio Vice-Chairpersons serve in the role during their tenure as Vice Ministers, while the term of the General Assembly-elected Vice-Chairperson aligns with their term as a member of the Commission.

Duties

The Vice-Chairpersons assist the Chairperson in their duties. If the Chairperson is unable to perform their duties due to unavoidable circumstances, a Vice-Chairperson designated by the Chairperson acts on their behalf.

General Assembly

The General Assembly is the highest decision-making body of the Korean National Commission for UNESCO. It is composed of all members of the Commission and is convened by the Chairperson. The General Assembly consists of Regular Sessions (held once a year) and Extraordinary Sessions. Decisions are made with the attendance of a majority of the total members and the approval of a majority of the members present.

Duties

  • The Commission’s budget proposal and work plan
  • The final accounts and performance reports of the Commission
  • Election of Vice-Chairpersons and members of the Executive Board
  • Appointment and dismissal of auditors
  • Matters related to the Rules of Procedure
  • Matters referred to the General Assembly by the Chairperson, the General Assembly, or the Executive Board
  • Other matters assigned to the General Assembly by law

Executive Board

The Executive Board assists the General Assembly in its deliberations and makes decisions on matters delegated by the General Assembly, as well as on the implementation of resolutions adopted by the General Assembly.

The Executive Board is composed of:

1. Ex officio members:

  • The Chairperson
  • The Vice-Chairpersons
  • The Secretary-General

2. Elected members:

  • Ten members from representatives of institutions, organizations, and expert members, elected by the General Assembly

3. Appointed members:

  • Two members from relevant central government agencies, designated by the Chairperson

The Executive Board is convened by the Chairperson of the Executive Board (the Chairperson of the Korean National Commission for UNESCO) and consists of Regular Sessions (held quarterly) and Extraordinary Sessions. Subcommittee

The Korean National Commission for UNESCO operates subcommittees and specialized committees to carry out its activities efficiently.

Establishment and Operation

  • Subcommittees, composed of members, established with approval from the General Assembly.
  • All members, except the Chairperson and Secretary-General, assigned to one subcommittee by the Chairperson.
  • Each subcommittee elects one Chairperson and two Vice-Chairpersons.
  • Meetings convened by the Chairperson or the subcommittee Chairperson as needed.
  • The Secretary-General manages related administrative tasks, attends meetings, and may speak.
  • Decisions made with the attendance of a majority of total members and approval by a majority of those present.

The Secretary-General is appointed by the Chairperson upon the recommendation of the Executive Board through an open recruitment process. The Secretary-General serves as an ex officio member of both the Commission and the Executive Board.

Term

The term of the Secretary-General is four years, with eligibility for one reappointment.

Duties

  • Oversees and represents the Secretariat.
  • Manages the affairs of the Commission as delegated by the Chairperson and may represent the Commission.
  • Directs, supervises, appoints, and dismisses staff of the Secretariat.
    Establishes subordinate departments and special organizations within the Secretariat.

[세액공제문의] 기부시, 세액공제는 얼마나 받을 수 있나요?

유네스코한국위원회는 기획재정부 지정 공익법인(기존 지정기부금단체)으로서, 기부금 세액공제 공제율은 1천만원 이하의 경우 15%를 공제받을 수 있고, 기부금이 1천만원 초과분에 대해 30%를 공제받을 수 있습니다. (근로소득의 30% 한도 내)

기부금은 연말정산 때 공제한도가 초과되어, 공제받지 못하는 금액에 대해서는 다음해 연말정산으로 이월하여 공제받을 수 있습니다.

기부금 세액공제 이월은 최대 10년입니다.

후원금 납부자(예금주 또는 카드주)와 등록된 후원자 명의가 다른 경우 (예: 후원자 명의는 자녀이름으로 등록하고, 납부는 부모 소유 계좌/카드로 등록하셨을 경우), 소득세법에 따라 기부금영수증은 등록된 후원자명과 주민등록번호로 발급이 됩니다. 단, 납부자 명의에 한해 해당 명의로 기부금영수증 발급이 가능합니다.

공부를 위한 학생들의 필수품인 책과 학용품의 질은 높지는 않지만 대부분을 그 나라에서 생산할 수 있습니다. 우리가 물건을 아프리카와 아시아로 직접 보내면 통관을 위한 관세와 배송비가 물품비보다 더 많이 드는 상황이 발생하게 됩니다. 그래서 물품을 후원해주시기보다는 후원금을 통해 그 나라에서 필요한 물품을 제작(또는 구입) 할 수 있게 지원하거나, 교육 프로그램을 제공하는 편이 더 많은 학생들이 혜택을 받을 수 있는 방법입니다.

[기타] 제가 보내는 후원금, 어디에 어떻게 쓰이고 있는 건가요?

후원자님이 보내주시는 후원금의 85~87%는 선택하신 기금분야의 사업을 위해 사용되며, 나머지 13~15%는 후원사업 홍보, 캠페인 발굴 및 후원관리를 위해 사용됩니다.
