The UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities (GNLC) is an international platform for collaboration between cities, established by UNESCO in 2015 to promote lifelong learning at the local level. The network facilitates the sharing of knowledge and best practices among member cities.
Under the leadership of the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), GNLC promotes policy dialogue, partnerships and peer learning among member cities in order to build capacities, and develops tools to encourage and recognize progress in building learning cities. As the domestic governing body for the GNLC in the Republic of Korea, the Korean National Commission for UNESCO monitors international trends, supports local governments in joining GNLC, and operates a domestic working group to promote the implementation of the Education 2030 agenda in urban settings.
